Summary
To survive in this competitive world and enhance skills, one should not depend only on bookish knowledge but also need to rely on practical knowledge i.e. exposure to the real working environment. Books give knowledge but experience teaches life lessons can be suitable here. Hence, the internship provides a greater door to opportunity by strengthening personal character and developing a professional attitude. The objective of the study was to gain practical acquaintance with the bank and corporate culture. Concerning this, the intern visited SBL, Narayangarh branch, one of the popular commercial banks, with the vision of becoming the most trusted bank by providing qualitative customer service through adaptation of innovation and digitalization and also through its competitive human resources. After having a discussion with the Branch Manager of the bank, the intern finally got an opportunity to be a part of SBL, a well-known name in the banking sector. The intern presented all the necessary documents as required by the bank and was placed in CSD by Operation Incharge. The intern performed activities reliably and productively on behalf of the bank in CSD for the entire eight-week tenure. This supported the intern to accomplish the Degree of BBA of TU.
The internship program of eight weeks in SBL in CSD was an absolutely worthwhile experience that brought out the strengths and identified the areas to be improved by the intern. SBL has been working out restlessly to provide access to better customer services in an efficient way ensuring noteworthy contributions to national goals like supporting employment creation, increasing tax/revenue collection, and so on. SBL is focused on maintaining long-term relationships with customers as well as retaining them through the proper coordination and cooperation of the entire department. SBL provided the intern a platform to experience about real banking environment, work with a diverse mix of staff from different backgrounds and with diverse environments, and provide a holistic learning experience. The friendly welcoming staff and the supportive space the bank has created for the intern allowed the intern ample opportunities to learn through the proper guidance of the staff of CSD.
Thus, working in CSD of SBL turned out to be enlightening and fruitful in enhancing theoretical apprehensions as well as realizing the competencies and level of understanding of the intern. The internship program provided the knowledge of the real organization structure, culture, behavior, hierarchy, banking laws, and accountability which will surely be constructive towards the pavement of the intern’s career and professional life.
